A Touch of Whimsy

A few of my beloved teapots enjoying the afternoon sun.
Teapots are cheerful creatures, bright and beautiful with round little bellies and quirky personalities. A collection of colorful, mismatched teapots perched on sturdy kitchen shelves or tucked into open cabinets lends a whimsical element of fun and wonder to the space, giving it a country-kitchen-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland kind of feel.
A teapot collection is also a creative way to stash away handy kitchen things like clothes pins, individually wrapped teabags and sugar packets, or even a private stock pile of jelly beans. (Not that you’ll find any in mine. No really, you don’t need to look…SERIOUSLY, I love you, but you need to stay the hell away from my jelly beans!)
Brewing over starting your own collection? Go for it! Here are a couple of cute finds to get you started…

- Red & White Polka Dot Pot by Fields of Blue – Available at Amazon.co.uk. 19.95 GBP
- Ladybug & Swirls by Burton & Burton – Available at Amazon.com. $17.00
- Hand-Painted Sun Spot Pot in Blue by Whitters of Chelsea, UK. 7.50 GBP.
- Bright & Cheerful by Treasured Designs – Available at Amazon.com. $18.99
Strapped for cash? Why not venture down to your local thrift store and see what you can find. Look for interesting shapes and varied sizes. Once you’ve hauled home a decent bounty, attack those dusty old pots with some brightly-colored spray paint or a decent acrylic. Remember, perfection is not the goal here. Fun, funky and colorful is what you’re shooting for.
Besides, no one should be getting too close to your handy work… if they know what’s good for them.

That is the loveliest kitchen window sill I have seen. You sure nailed it when you said,'country-kitchen-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland.' The post boxy one...fascinating.
Popped in from SITS to say hi!
My name is Laura. I'm Jessica/Saturday Jane's friend and I've seen your name forever in the comments and on the blogroll, and having seen this post now I am KICKING myself for not coming over earlier! I have been on a quest for a teapot, having already collected 6 mugs/cups, for about 2 years now and your windowsill is amaaaaazing!
Jelly Beans hu? That's a good idea. I just have chocolate candies in mine.
Oh my goodness. Those are adorable! If only I had my own kitchen to fill with teapots. And I don't even drink that much tea. Hm, but my boyfriend does. It'll be an easy sell if we get married ^_~
Those are charming! Teapots are great decorative pieces - I have a handmade Russian teapot that I love. Yours are all beautiful.
This is such a great tip! I LOVE those teapots! :)
I now kinda wish I was collecting them, I am on frogs right now!
Thanks everybody! Glad to see so many new visitors. I'll be sure to swing by and check out your blogs soon. :)
Sammy - I love Frogs! Ready for this? Two words: Frog Teapot.

Kitty - please don't encourage Sam to start collecting teapots - she will inherit a ready made stash from Nanny ! ! !
I love the tea pots ...even though I must admit and I am British,I do not posses one. However the idea of painting one with my own design does appeal to more creative side.
Also as always a fun read ..........from a very talented writer.
I love that little red and white polka dot one!! They wouldn't look cute in my kitchen, they'd look like clutter...
Love the teapots! Fun. Also, I love the "little house" in your yard. Awesome!
Those are beautiful teapots! Both the ones on your window sill and the ones you featured. I love them, they are so quaint. I love your blog!

Teapots are SO cute. How could anyone feel anything other than happy when spying a ridiculously cute one? :)
How fun is this? SITS sent me by, and I'm glad they did!
Oh neat idea! I'm the same way with souvenir trinket boxes...when I travel to a new place I'll buy a souvenir trinket box. Mine are holding stuff like extra safety pins right now.
Oh i love teapots too.. but the ones i found at local stores were to expensive for my budget.. but I'll keep searching!
Happy Friday!

I enjoyed reading about your teapots .... nice collection
Adorable teapots! I have a cute little retro blue one that I use to make tea on the stove. And I totally have cups that match that ladybug teapot! I collect ladybugs. :) Which begs the question why do I not have the pot to go with them? lol.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and saying hi! :)
haha... I love that you have a secret stash of jelly beans! And those teapots are too cute! Great idea!
